Everest Panorama Trek Overview

The 7 Days Everest panorama view trek will begin with a stunning flight to Lukla Airport. After arriving in Lukla, you will start the trek on the Dudh Koshi River's banks and enter the Everest gateway - Namche Bazaar. You will acclimate to this famous Sherpa town for a day.

While acclimatizing, you will explore Khumjung village where you can visit the local yak farm, Khumjung Monastery, the Edmund Hillary-funded school and Hospital, and enjoy the views of Everest from the Everest View Hotel.

After Namche Bazaar, you will continue to Tengboche. Once again, from Tengboche, you will catch spectacular views of Mt. Everest and other surrounding high peaks. You can visit the ancient Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the Everest region where you can observe the monks offering prayers. You can marvel at the glorious sight of Mountain peaks from Tengboche like Lhotse (8516m), Everest (8848m), Ama Dablam (6856m), and Thamserku (6608m).

Then, you will return to Namche Bazaar and trek back to Lukla. The short Everest Panorama Trek is a good introductory trek perfect for all age groups.

However, if you want the best view of Mount Everest, you must trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and reach Kala Patthar (5,555m).

Day 1: Flight from Kathmandu/Manthali to Lukla (2,850m / 9,350ft). Trek to Phakding (2,650m / 8,562ft)

The Everest Panorama Trek begins with a flight from Kathmandu or Manthali to Lukla. It’s a dangerous yet scenic flight where you will enjoy the majestic views of mountain ranges, majestic hills, and beautiful valleys.

Lukla is the gateway to the Everest region. In the busy trekking months - March, April, May, September, October, and November, flights from Kathmandu to Lukla may be rerouted to Manthali Airport.

Upon arriving at the Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla, your trek to Phakding begins. The trek to Phakding will be short and enjoyable as you will have more time to rest and acclimatize.

Day 2: Trek from Phakding (2,650m / 8,562ft ) to Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,285 ft)

Today, you will be heading to the capital of the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar. You begin the trek early morning along the Dudh Koshi River banks crossing several suspension bridges including the famous Hillary suspension bridge. 

You will trek through dense forest trails to reach a small Sherpa village, Monjo. As you hike ahead, you will come to the Sagarmatha National Park Check Post where you register your trekking permits. You will continue your trek to Namche Bazaar - a famous Sherpa town.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar is the largest settlement in the Everest region and one of the major highlights of the Everest Panorama trek. This delightful large village has a lot to offer - including numerous Wi-Fi-linked cafes and restaurants, souvenirs, gear shops, pubs, etc. It would be a great day to have a day break here. Also, this rest day would help you acclimatize and adapt your body to the increasing altitudes.

Today, you will explore and hike Shangboche at the Everest View Hotel from where you will get lovely views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and even Everest.

You can visit the Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center or hike to Khumjung and Khunde.

Day 4: Trek from Namche (3,440m / 11,285ft) to Tengboche (3,855m / 12,850ft)

Today you will trek to Tengboche following the Dudh Koshi River. You can get spectacular views of Everest and other surrounding peaks on clear days. 

You can view several local wildlife including musk deer, Himalayan Thars, and pheasants. 

The trail drops down as you cross the Dudh Koshi River and pass through rigorous pine forests to Tengboche monastery, then to a meadow with surrounding lodges. From Tengboche, you get views of Ama Dablam.

Day 5: Trek from Tengboche (3,855m / 12,850ft) to Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,285ft)

Trek Duration: 5 hours

Today, you leave Tengboche and head back to Namche Bazaar. The trek passes through dense forests, where you might get views of wildlife like pheasants, musk deer, mountain goats, or even snow leopards. 

The trail will pass through various prayer flags and chortens by the side. Trekking forward, you will arrive at Namche Bazaar.

Day 6: Trek from Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,285ft) to Lukla (2,850m / 9,350ft)

Trek Distance: 13.5km / 8.3miles

Highest Altitude: 3,440m / 11,285ft

Trek Duration: 6-7 hrs

Today is the last day of your trek. You will hike down a steep trail descending to the Hillary Suspension Bridge and through several local villages in and around Dudh Koshi River valley. 

Upon reaching Lukla, you can celebrate your successful trek, rest and relax.

Day 7: Fly back to Kathmandu/Manthali from Lukla (2,850m / 9,350ft)

Flight Hours: 40/20 minutes

After your trek ends in Lukla, you will fly back to Kathmandu or Manthali, depending on the season. If you are trekking in peak seasons like March, April, May, September, October, or November, you will probably fly to Manthali, followed by a five-hour drive to Kathmandu. In other months (December, January, February, June, July, and August), you will fly from Lukla to Kathmandu directly.

When is the Best Time For Everest View Trek?

Tengboche, the largest Monastery in the Everest Region.

The Autumn (September, October and November) and Spring (March, April and May) seasons are the best time for Everest View Trekking. During these seasons, the skies are clear and provides the most spectacular vistas, while the favorable warm temperature makes the trek heavenly.

During winter, the trek becomes challenging due to heavy snowfall and cold temperatures, but it also excites some trekkers. Similarly, summer coincides with the monsoon in Nepal, so the path is a little slippery and wet.

Spring (March to May)

Monsoon (July to September)

The rainfall hits its peak during this time. Due to heavy rainfall, flights to Lukla may get canceled several times a day. The hike is challenging but not impossible. 

The trails are slippery and days are likely to get cloudy which can obscure mountain views with clouds and mist. 

During these months temperature is around 27°C during the day and around 10°C at night.

Winter Season (December to February)

Winter trekking in the Everest View Trekking offers solitude and pristine snowscapes. As winter begins, snowfalls start in the Himalayas, and it gets tough to trek.

However, the cold can be intense, and higher altitude trails may be snow-covered and challenging to navigate.

During this season temperatures range from 15°C to -5°C.

What are the Permits Required for the Everest Panorama Trek?

You need 2 permits for the Everest Panorama Trek - Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit and Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit is the newest permit introduced in the Khumbu region. It replaced the TIMS Card and became necessary on October 1, 2018. So, the permit fees of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality will be collected directly by the local government.

Cost of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit

  • The permit costs NPR 2000 per person for the first four weeks and NPR 2500 per person who stays longer than four weeks. No VAT applies to the permit fees. 
  • The cost of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit is the same for everyone outside of Nepal, including SAARC nationals, foreign nationals, and NRNs (Non-Resident Nepalese). 
  • The permit fee is payable only in the Nepalese currency. 

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

The Everest region trek is a part of Sagarmatha National Park (designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site), a restricted and protected area, it is a must-needed permit. 

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit can be obtained at Nepal Tourism Board in Kamaladi, Kathmandu. If you are already in Lukla, you can hike up to Monjo Village and acquire it from the checkpost available.

Cost of Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit costs around NRs. 3000 for foreign trekkers. [Outside of Nepal and SAARC countries].
  • If you are from SAARC Countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka), permit costs around NPR.1500 per person. 
  • Similarly, for Nepalese trekkers, the cost is only NPR 100 per person. 
  • Trekkers under 10 years old can obtain this permit without any charges or fees as a child discount.
